Wood VS Vinyl: Which Is Better?

Maybe you have been seeing some articles about two of the most popular fence types, wood, and vinyl. Now you want to know which one is better and which one is going to give you the most bang for your buck. Well, keep reading and by the end of this article, you will surely know which one is best. Both fence types have their own advantages and disadvantages and maybe the disadvantages of one to me, are advantages for you… or something. Anyway, enough wasting time with this long-winded and confusing opening paragraph; let’s start comparing.

The Price Is Right… Or Is It?

When you look at the basic statistics on some random fence website, the first thing you will probably notice is that wood costs less than vinyl. Great! Get your credit card number ready and click buy!  Well, only do that if you want to waste your money, lose time, and cry about the silly decision you made to get a wood fence. Wood fences are cheap. I mean, of course, it is! Look out your window and tell me what you see. My best guess is that you see wood! Even if you live in a high rise apartment building in the center of the city, if you squint, you can see a tree. Also, if you live in a high rise, why do you want a fence…? Anyway, long story cut short, in the long run, because of the amount of money that you are going to have to spend on repairing and fixing up your wood fence, vinyl is the better option in terms of price. Vinyl costs a bit more in the very beginning, but because it isn’t likely going to need any repairs, you are saving lots of money.

The Workload Is Light.

Like I mentioned above, vinyl really doesn’t require much work or attention. A wipe down with some soap and water every once in a while when it starts to look bad is all you really have to do. Wood on the other hand needs to be taken care of often. If the sun gets too hot on it, it begins to become discolored, if it rains too much the wood rots, if some termites move in then you have to get rid of them and fill in any holes that were left behind. If you paint starts to chip then you have to remove ALL of the paint, sand it power wash it, prime it and then paint it again. Of course, you can call a company like the fence installation company in Las Vegas, NV to come and do it for you, but expect to pay for it!

Conclusion.

As you can tell I’m quite biased toward vinyl, but wood does have one good quality. You can paint it any color you want. Unless of course, the HOA tells you to paint it the same off white color as the rest of your neighbors.  Just saying, vinyl is a better fence type all around. Oh, did I mention that vinyl can look just like wood? Yeah, I’ll leave you with that.
